Kashmiri Roth (Sweet Bread)

Roth is also sometimes referred to as Kashmiri Cake. It is generally offered to God Ganesha on Ganesh Chaturthi. It is made either by frying in a pan or in an oven. Here I will show you how to make both the types of Roth.

Cooking Time: 25-30 minutes

Roth

Ingredients:

Recipe Specific Ingredients:

Wheat Flour: 1 Kg

Desiccated Coconut: 250 Gms

Sugar: 250 Gms

Ghee : 250 Gms

Other Ingredients:

Big Cardamoms: 3-4

Almonds: 1/2 Cup

Cashews: 1/2 Cup

Ghee for deep frying

How to Prepare for making Roth:

Sieve the wheat flour.

Add desiccated coconut, Chopped Nuts, Ghee, Cardamom Powder and mix well.

Heat some water (1 cup) in a pan and dissolve sugar into it. Knead the flour with the water. Use extra water in case needed.

Keep the flour covered for around 20-30 minutes

How to make Roth in Oven:

Grease an oven friendly plate with little ghee.

Take a dough from the flour and spread it in the plate using your hand.

Prick the spread dough with fork making beautiful designs. It will also help in baking the bread well.

Garnish it with Nuts and poppy seeds.

Pre-heat the oven to 180-200 degrees for 10 minutes.

Now bake the roth for 20-25 minutes in the oven.

Take the roth out and let it cool down a bit.

Take the roth out and it is ready to serve.

How to make Kadai Roth:

Take some ghee in an open pan and heat it for frying Roths.

Divide the dough in small balls (app. 2 inch Diameter)

Roll out the ball into medium thick round chapati.

Now fry them in the ghee pan from both sides till it is borwnish in colour.

Take it out and sprinkle dry poppy seeds on them.

Repeat the process.

How to make crispy roths:

Roll out the ball into medium thick round chapati.

Half cook it on a tawa from both sides.

Now fry it in the pan in Ghee till iit is light golden brown.

Your Roth is ready.
