Fish is cooked in so many ways. Every region have their own recipes. Here I share with you a very delicious recipe of Machhli aur Ganth Gobhi (Fish and Kohlrabi). Fish is cooked in various combinations. Kohlrabi is among the famous ones and very popular in Kashmir.

How to make Machhli aur Ganth Gobhi recipe (Fish and Kohlrabi recipe):

Kashmiri Style Fish Curry (Gaade te Maunj) Recipe: Kashmiris are known Fish eaters after Bengalis. We cook it with various vegetables in combination which enhances its taste. Here I show you how to cook fish with kohlrabi.

Ingredients:

Recipe Specific Ingredients:

Fish: 1 Kg

Kohlrabi: 500 Gms

Tomatoes: 6 medium sized

Spices:

Asafoetida: 1 pinch

Cumin Seeds: 1 tea spoon

Turmeric Powder: 4-5 tsp

Fennel Powder: 2 tea spoons

Ginger Powder: 1 tea spoon

Coriander Powder: 1/2 tsp (Optional)

Pepper Corn: 1 tsp

Big Cardamoms: 3-4 Pieces

Green Cardamoms: 4-5

Cinnamon: 1 piece of 1 inch length

Cloves: 4-5

Basic Ingedients:

Salt: 1 tsp (as per taste)

Red Chilly Powder: 2 tea spoons

Mustard Oil: 2 spoons for cooking and for frying fish

How to Marinate the fish:

Clean the fish, remove the scaling and wash with clean water.

Marinate with turmeric powder, salt, Red Chilly powder. Rub the mixture on whole of the fish and keep it aside for 2-3 hours.

How to do preparation for cooking Fish and Kohlrabi:

Cut the Kohlrabi into pieces.

Fry the kohlrabi in mustard oil and keep it in a bowl.

Make the tomato puree.

Grind 1 stick of cinnamon, 3-4 big cardamoms and 1 tsp of pepper corns to powder.

How to cook Fish and Kohlrabi:

Heat 2 spoons of oil in a pan. Add the tomato puree.

Add 1tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp ginger powder, 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilly powder, salt and give it a good mix.

Add little water so that the spices don’t burn.

Turn the flame off and set it aside.

Deep fry the fish in a pan. You can use the same fane and oil in which we friend Kohlrabi.

take the fish in a plate and keep it aside.

Now Heat 1 spoon oil in a pan.

Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 stick cinnamon, 3-4 big cardamom, 4-5 cloves and 4-5 green cardamoms and saute them well.

Add the tomato puree and mix it well.

Now add 1/2 tsp ginger powder, 1 tsp red chilly powder, 1/2 tsp Coriander powder, 2 tsp fennel powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and 1 tsp salt. Mix it well.

Add little water. so that the spices don’t burn

Add the kohlrabi and the fish. Add water to cover fish and kohlrabi.

Add grinded spice mixture.

Mix well. Cover the lid and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes.

You can adjust the gravy as per your requirement.

Switch the flame off and bring it to room temperature.

It is ready to serve.
